Broadband Expansion

Goals of broadband expansion

Providing all households, facilities and businesses with high-performance internet connections is one of the most important investments in the infrastructure of the future. With Taufkirchen's entry into the funding programs of the federal government and the Free State of Bavaria, it is now possible to eliminate the underserved areas.

For strategic reasons, the broadband expansion is taking place in eight large construction phases, so-called "rings", which bring together numerous households and provide them with high-speed internet.

With Telekom Deutschland GmbH, a reliable partner has been gained that ensures the operational operation of the network and supplies end customers with the most modern broadband products. In order to ensure the expansion, however, the network is already designed to fully supply all households, businesses and schools in the expansion areas. The residents, who benefit from the subsidized broadband expansion of Telekom, will receive information from the operator on how to proceed.

Interested citizens can use the attached map to see whether they are part of the subsidized broadband expansion.

Project duration

The end of construction is planned for the end of 2020. However, it should be noted in all information that there can always be unplanned deviations and delays.

Current status

As of June 29th, 2020

With the exception of minor remaining work, the civil engineering work is almost complete. In the next step, assembly and finishing work will now be carried out. Fortunately, despite the aggravating circumstances caused by the corona pandemic, the overall measure can be implemented as planned and completed this year.

As of March 25th, 2020

Due to the corona pandemic, there are currently delays in broadband expansion. How long this will last cannot be estimated at this point in time.

As of March 5th, 2020

Civil engineering work is currently taking place in rings 1, 2, 4 and 8.

Now that the winter break is over and the civil engineering work has started again, an initial result can be drawn. The civil engineering work has already taken place over a distance of 9.5 km. So far, 8.4 km of fiber optic cables have been laid and 10 distribution boxes have already been built.

Development of the broadband expansion

In Bavaria, the regions outside the large metropolitan areas are largely undersupplied or unsupervised with a bandwidth of at least 50 Mbit / s. That is why the Bavarian State Ministry for Economic Affairs and Media, Energy and Technology offered a funding program for the consistent expansion of high-performance broadband networks.

The municipality of Taufkirchen (Vils) decided to take part in this program. Together with the consulting firm IK-T from Regensburg, the largest possible supply of the community area was worked out. The development area was divided into two sections and designated as lot 1 and lot 2. A representation is available for download under the following link:

For lot 1, the municipal council awarded the contract to Deutsche Telekom to expand the high-speed network with fiber optic technology at the beginning of October 2014.
